The Bingham Canyon Mine, more commonly known as Kennecott Copper Mine among locals, is an open-pit mining operation extracting a large porphyry copper deposit southwest of Salt Lake City, in the Oquirrh Mountains. The mine is owned by Rio Tinto Group, an international mining and exploration company headquartered in the United Kingdom. The copper operations at Bingham Canyon Mine are managed through Kennecott Utah Copper Corporation which operates the mine, a concentrator plant, a smelter, and a refinery. The mine has been in production since 1906, and has resulted in the creation of a pit over 0.6 miles (0.97 km) deep, 2.5 miles (4 km) wide, and covering 1,900 acres (770 ha). It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966 under the name Bingham Canyon Open Pit Copper Mine. The mine experienced a massive landslide in April 2013 and a smaller slide in September 2013. www.kennecott.com

Temple Square is a 10-acre (4.0 ha) complex owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) and located in the center of Salt Lake City, Utah. The grounds, as well as the Gardens at Temple Square, often host concerts and other events. During the Christmas holiday season, more than a million Christmas lights sparkle from trees and shrubs around Temple Square each evening until 9 pm. The Family History Library is a genealogical research facility in downtown Salt Lake City. The library is open to the public free of charge and is operated by FamilySearch, the genealogical arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). It is the largest library of its kind in the world with access to over 2.4 million rolls of microfilmed genealogical records. The Salt Lake Tabernacle, also known as the Mormon Tabernacle, is located on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah. The original benches and columns supporting the balcony were made from the native “white pine” (Engelmann Spruce) that the Mormon pioneers found in the area. The Bonneville Salt Flats is one of the most unique natural features in Utah. Stretching over 30,000 acres, the Bonneville Salt Flats is a fragile resource administered by the Bureau of Land Management. It is located along I-80 near the Utah-Nevada border. Found west of the Great Salt Lake, in western Utah, is perfectly flat and has a thick crust of salty soil. It looks like a frozen lake bed covered with snow. Utah’s Hogle Zoo is one of the most-visited attractions in Utah and the top paid-for tourist attraction in Salt Lake City. FamilySearch Center is only one block away on the east side of Temple Square, it’s a great place where you can get one-on-one help with family history. It’s located in the lower level of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building (formerly the Hotel Utah). The FamilySearch Center has two large classrooms with Internet access, which can be reserved by groups. Family organizations and genealogical societies like to use the center for their members, especially when the Family History Library is closed on Monday nights. Liberty Park is a popular public urban park in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is the city’s second-largest public park, at 80 acres (32 ha), being surpassed only by Sugarhouse Park which has 110.5 acres (44.7 ha). The park features a pond with two islands, and is also the location of Tracy Aviary. Salt Lake Temple is the centerpiece of the 10-acre (4.0 ha) Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah. This magnificent granite structure was constructed over a period of 40 years, from the laying of the cornerstones on 6 April 1853 to the dedication on 6 April 1893. The temple is considered the house of the Lord and is sacred to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Utah State Capitol is the house of government for the U.S. state of Utah. The Cathedral of the Madeleine is a Roman Catholic church in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is the mother church for Roman Catholics in the State of Utah. It is the only cathedral in the US under the patronage of St. Mary Magdalene. The Cathedral is home to the only co-educational Catholic Choir School in the United States. The Salt Lake City Public Library system is a network of public libraries funded by Salt Lake City. The Free Public Library of Salt Lake City first opened on February 14, 1898. Joseph Smith Memorial Building was named in honor of Joseph Smith, the founder of the Latter Day Saint movement. It is located on the corner of Main Street and South Temple in Salt Lake City. It is now a social center with three restaurants: The Roof Restaurant, The Garden Restaurant and The Nauvoo Cafe. It is also a venue for events complete with 13 banquet rooms, catering services, event coordinators and a full-service floral department – Flowers Squared. Several levels of the building also serve as administrative offices for LDS Church departments such as FamilySearch. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is a Grammy- and Emmy Award-winning, 360-member, all-volunteer choir. The choir is part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), founded in August 1847, one month after the Mormon pioneers entered the Salt Lake Valley. Its funding is provided by the sale of albums, concert tickets, licensing of recorded performances, and donations. Red Butte Garden and Arboretum consists of a botanical garden, arboretum, and amphitheater operated by the University of Utah, in the foothills of the Wasatch Range in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.
